Without a doubt that sounds hacky- but it is, nevertheless, true. The 70 hour reserve powers the 3235 movement on a full charge, and the lone marker at 9 o’clock- long rumored to resemble a “tennis net” separating the upper and lower sides of the dial- can comfortably maintain its glow overnight, though perhaps not as bright as, say, Seiko’s lume. Having a Datejust in your collection with a slate dial juxtaposed with brighter steel provides a “cool” dimension to your collection often found in watches priced substantially higher.
