The Carrera Calibre 17 pairs the clean, open-faced look of the earlier Carreras with an automatic chronograph and a discreet date window between four and five. Its charm is in the balance: three recessed registers give the dial depth, while the slim bezel leaves the timing display room to breathe.

The black-dial CV2110 is a good starting point if you prefer a restrained chronograph rather than an overtly sporting one. Inside, Calibre 17 uses the modular ETA chronograph architecture, a useful distinction from the integrated movements found in other Carreras. When handling one, test the chronograph through start, stop, and reset, watching that all three elapsed-time hands return cleanly to zero; the central seconds hand alone doesn’t tell the whole story.
