The Studio Underd0g Watermelon makes a surprisingly convincing chronograph out of pink flesh, a green rind and black seed-shaped hour markers. The joke lands because the dial is carefully composed: its textured surface and contrasting subdials give you something to enjoy long after the fruit reference has registered.

Part of the British brand’s debut collection in 2021, this is a hand-wound mechanical chronograph, not simply a novelty dial on a quartz watch. The Seagull ST1901 brings a column-wheel mechanism and an exhibition-back view of the chronograph works—a second, rather different source of entertainment. When assessing an example, pay particular attention to the chronograph: the central seconds hand should reset cleanly to zero, and the elapsed-minute counter should advance correctly. Those functions matter more here than the cheerful face might suggest.
