The Piaget Altiplano makes thinness something you feel, not just a number on a spec sheet: it slips close to the wrist, leaving the dial to do the talking. The restrained versions are especially satisfying if you like a dress watch with little between you and a pair of finely drawn hands.

Piaget’s ultra-thin credentials reach back to the hand-wound 9P of 1957 and the micro-rotor automatic 12P of 1960, well before the Altiplano name arrived. For a particularly pure expression, seek out the 38mm hand-wound models with caliber 430P; their modest footprint suits the spare design. Prefer an automatic? Versions using caliber 1200P preserve the slim profile with a micro-rotor rather than a full-width winding rotor.

Pay attention to case diameter as much as thickness: a broad, nearly empty dial can wear larger than expected. On gem-set examples, distinguish factory settings from later additions—the dial and case treatment are central to which Altiplano you’re buying.
