The Heuer Carrera made its name by giving a racing chronograph room to breathe: clean registers, sharp faceted lugs, and a dial you could read at a glance. Introduced in 1963, the original remains a particularly satisfying choice if you like your chronographs compact and their design purposeful.

Start with the three-register 2447, powered by the hand-wound Valjoux 72, or the two-register 3647 if you prefer a quieter dial. Neither needs a busy bezel to announce its sporting brief. The later automatic 1153 takes a different direction, with a broader case and crown on the left; it belongs to the Carrera story, but wears quite differently from the early watches.

For the original look without a 1960s movement, the hand-wound re-editions—including CS3110 and CS3111—deserve attention. On an early Carrera, examine the lug facets and dial printing closely: polishing can soften that crisp architecture, while a refinished dial can lose the delicacy that makes these watches so good.
