Fears has a knack for making restrained watches feel personal. Founded in Bristol in 1846 by Edwin Fear, the British company returned in 2016 under his great-great-great-grandson, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill. The revival draws on old catalogues and surviving watches, but its strongest designs feel considered rather than simply copied from the archive.

The Brunswick is the collection to know first. Its cushion-shaped case takes inspiration from a Fears watch of 1924, pairing soft corners with crisp dial work and distinctive numerals. Dial colors range from quiet silver to richer blues and pinks; changes in texture give each a different character. Hand-wound and automatic versions offer different proportions without losing that recognizable outline.

For a more explicitly historical direction, the Archival 1930 revisits a rectangular design from 1930. Its elongated case and neatly arranged dial speak a different language from the Brunswick: slimmer, more formal, and closer to the wristwatches that were beginning to displace pocket watches between the wars.
