Corum has always had room for the unexpected. Founded in Switzerland in 1955, it made a habit of treating the dial as more than a place to put hands and markers. The Coin Watch, introduced in 1964, built a wristwatch around an actual gold coin, preserving its relief as the face of the watch.

The nautical side is just as recognizable. The Admiral’s Cup collection developed the twelve-sided bezel and maritime signal flags that still define the modern Admiral. The Golden Bridge, launched in 1980, takes a different course: its narrow, linear movement stretches across a transparent case, with the mechanics themselves supplying the composition. There is little dial to distract from that extraordinary arrangement.

Then there’s the Bubble, introduced in 2000. Its towering domed sapphire crystal magnifies and distorts the dial beneath, turning a familiar glance at the wrist into something stranger. Skull motifs and playful artwork suit it particularly well; this is a watch whose crystal participates in the design rather than merely protecting it.
