The newer 3495 module replaces the original 3159 module’s electroluminescent backlight with an LED and adds practical refinements, including an adjustable day/month display order and the current time remaining visible in stopwatch mode. Those are useful reasons to favor the U, though some enthusiasts prefer the older backlight’s even glow.

Radio reception depends on location and placement, so unsuccessful synchronization alone doesn’t establish a fault. More telling is whether the watch charges normally and retains that charge; a depleted rechargeable battery can take sustained exposure to light to recover.

Common Criticisms
