The Breitling Steelfish takes the Superocean’s dive-watch formula in a heavier, more purposeful direction, with a broad steel bezel and a dial that mixes large Arabic numerals with luminous round markers. The 44mm A17390 is the version to know if you want the full-sized Steelfish: substantial on the wrist, but without the busy scales of Breitling’s aviation watches.

Earlier Steelfish models were 42mm, so the name alone doesn’t identify the size. The A17390 pairs its larger case with a 2,000m depth rating and the automatic Breitling 17, a familiar, straightforward movement rather than an in-house talking point. When handling one, pay attention to the bezel’s raised rider tabs: they make it easy to grip, but their edges and fastening screws deserve a close look. Give the screw-down crown a turn, too; it should engage cleanly rather than needing persuasion.
