Baume & Mercier’s Clifton is a dress-watch family with enough breadth to make the name on the dial only the beginning of the story. Its round cases, curved lugs and mix of polished and satin-finished surfaces establish a common language, but sizes, movements and complications vary substantially across generations.

Introduced in 2013 with inspiration drawn from the brand’s 1950s watches, the original Clifton leaned on applied hour markers and sharply faceted hands rather than elaborate dial decoration. Straightforward date models sit alongside small-seconds layouts, chronographs and calendar complications. Those differences matter on the wrist: a restrained three-hand dial and a busier calendar display give quite different expressions to the same underlying design.

The Clifton Baumatic, introduced in 2018, marks a distinct technical chapter, with automatic movements offering a five-day power reserve. The Clifton Club takes another direction entirely: its rotating bezel and more overtly sporting treatment separate it from the dressier core collection. Neither name is simply shorthand for a different dial on the original Clifton.
