The Baume & Mercier Capeland spans everyday three-hand watches and chronographs, with a character that shifts from straightforward sports watch to rounded, vintage-inspired stopwatch. The name alone doesn’t pin down a movement or case size: earlier quartz and automatic models sit alongside later mechanical chronographs with distinctly different proportions and dial layouts.

Earlier Capelands generally have a more contemporary sporting look, with clear Arabic numerals, practical date displays, and bracelet-equipped versions. The chronograph collection introduced in 2011 took a different direction, drawing on a Baume & Mercier single-pusher chronograph from 1948. Rounded cases, curved crystals, and dials combining tachymeter and telemeter scales give these later watches a much more deliberate mid-century flavor.

Among those later chronographs, 42mm and 44mm cases are important distinctions, as are conventional chronograph and flyback versions. A flyback lets the running chronograph reset and restart with one press rather than a stop-reset-start sequence. Dial architecture is another useful dividing line: the number and placement of registers, the date position, and the scale arrangement help separate generations that share the Capeland name.
