For sale is this vintage Seiko 7830-5020, made in Japan in April of 1978. This model, reference no. MHA844 is stunning with looks that shout '70s but in a classy way. A simple time-only watch that gets rid of all the fuss and keeps it clean with a beautiful gold rice paper style dial with subtle but tasteful texture that contrasts nicely to the high-polish gold baton stick markers that are stepped when you look at them through magnification - it's all in the details. Contrasting again is the gloss black pencil hands with a matte gold seconds hand that satisfyingly hits the markers.  The RRP for this model in 1978 was a whopping ¥55,000, which equates to $1,249 in today's money adjusted for inflation. The case exhibits brushed top surface and high-polish sides. The case design is actually very similar to a model in the Seiko "Emblem" series that came before it leading me to believe this is the successor as the case is a lot thinner than the similar "Emblem" model at just 6.6mm (especially thin for a '70s quartz watch) as well as having this more gorgeous rice paper dial. All the print on the dial including the Seiko logo, single crystal quartz symbol, Suwa swirl logo are printed in black. This watch was manufactured in the Suwa factory during its famous rivalry with the Daini factory. The movement (part of the 78 calibre series) was also an upgrade from the predecessor, which would go on to be featured in the "Lord Quartz" series as well, showing just how top-shelf the movement was. The calibre 7830 is a high-quality movement and is a beautiful view too. Condition is great for a watch almost 50 years old. Original finishing is mostly intact with a bit of corrosion, crystal and dial are basically pristine. General wear expected for its age. Brand new soft & pliable strap. Brand new battery fitted.
