[SOLD] For Sale: Casio G-SHOCK DW-5000C-1B







This is the rare, gold variant of the first model G-SHOCK, released in 1983. This particular watch has a very low serial number and a Japan Y case and case-back. The Japan Y case is considered by many vintage G-SHOCK collectors to be the premier finish and shape of these early G-SHOCK models.
I purchased this watch in May 2020 from a seller who claimed to be the original owner. I restored the watch and it has mostly sat in a sealed watch box ever since being restored. I cannot recall ever wearing this watch for more than a couple minutes here or there inside my home. It is for this reason that I wish to let this watch (and the rest of my vintage G-SHOCK collection) move on to a new owner/collector who will appreciate it and enjoy it.

Restoration and watch details:
New Renata CR2320 battery.
New genuine Casio DW-5000C-1B rear O-ring.
New genuine Casio DW-5000C-1B resin strap.
Aftermarket resin bezel (v2.0) made by electric0ant.
Button assemblies cleaned, rebuilt, and gaskets lubricated. Button pushers move smoothly.
Crystal glass hand polished with cerium oxide. The crystal finish is smooth and nearly flawless. I stopped polishing before removing all but one tiny speck of a scratch that remains below the SIG-ON-OFF area of the crystal in the lower right hand corner. I stopped polishing so as to not push the crystal too far and possibly create any crystal graphics delamination. The remaining crystal blemish is quite faint, but it is there so I include it in the watch description for the sake of the buyer. The rest of the crystal is incredibly smooth, clean, and polished.
Japan Y case-back. Case-back has wear, including scratches. Case-back condition shown in attached images.
Bezel screws can be removed easily. None are broken and all securely screw into the watch case.
Backlight functions as intended.
Alarm tones are slightly muted as a result of double-sided carbon tape that I installed to protect the crystal graphics from the module alarm spring. Please understand that the alarm tones are still audible on this watch, but are indeed quieter than OE.

The watch has been stored in a non-smoking home and has never been exposed to any harsh chemicals while in my care.

Water resistance has not been tested and is not guaranteed as part of this sale. I have no reason to believe that water resistance is in any way compromised, but ensuring water resistance of any efficacy is the responsibility of the buyer.

Asking $849.00usd. I consider this watch to be in amazing condition given its rarity and age, but it is being sold AS IS. This particular watch, like any vintage piece, is not perfect.
