Dear all,

Up for sale today is a mint Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref 1002. I don’t use that word lightly but I rarely come across 40+ year old watches in such condition. The dial is simply flawless. The lume is puffy and has turned a beautiful custard shade and matches across the hands and dial. The case is thick, sharp and unpolished - notice the brushing on the lugs and the crispness of the engraving on the caseback. In fact, even the solid gold bezel has started to show a slightly burnished effect which occurs due to lack of exposure to the elements, likely due to sitting in a safe or a drawer for long periods of time. Like many presentation watches, I think it’s possible this one was only worn on special occasions. Service history is unknown but runs well at around +/- 10 seconds/day.

Highlights:

  • Condition, condition, condition

Lowlights:

  • Fluted bezel is a replacement. Looking at it's aged yet fine condition, I assume this was replaced many, many years ago and is in just as pristine condition as the rest of the watch.
  • Engraving on the caseback. Personally, I like engravings because they provide a lens into a watch’s past but I know it might not be for everyone.
