Selling my: 1950’s Universal Geneve Uni-Compax 124118-5 in solid 18k Rose Gold

Description: This Uni-Compax chronograph is a stunning example of a dress chronograph from the 1950’s. It is in excellent working order (smoothest chrono mechanism I’ve ever felt), and in immaculate condition for its age. The watch has a case diameter of 35mm and a lug width of 20mm so it wears larger than the diameter would indicate (it also has unique “pump” style spring bars that fit onto pegs sticking out from the lugs, rather than a spring bar pins that go into lug holes; i.e. the lugs are the “male” and the spring bar is the “female”). The movement is a UG Cal 285 and operates buttery smooth. The term Compax was Universal’s way of denoting the complications of the watch. With the Uni-Compax, as there is only one complication, the chronograph, it is called the ‘Uni’ Compax. The watch is currently on a Rodina Shell Cordovan strap with matching Rose Gold (plated SS) Rodina branded buckle, but the watch will come with the JPM x S.Song Dark Brown Horween strap shown in the pictures.
This example is one of their more unusual examples with lots of details going for it. Cased in a solid 18k pink gold case, it is ultimately a dress chronograph. Featuring elegant dauphine hands and blued steel chronograph and subdial hands, it sits on top of one of the most beautiful dials in my opinion. The dial is a silver linen dial, vertically brushed with a contrasting white outer tachymeter scale with matching blue text. Complement this with two oversized subdials that are recessed and engraved with concentric circles, the details really add depth to this simple chronograph and accentuates the overall look.

Condition: The condition of this Uni-Compax further highlights the desirability of this piece with a close to unpolished case. Flip the watch around and you will find one of the best chronograph calibres of the era, the famed in-house UG Cal. 285. The acrylic crystal has some dings and scratches, but has been polished to be as smooth and clear as possible.
