With the popularity explosion of vintage watches over the past few years, watches once known as great values are starting to dry up and prices rise and quality examples get stuffed away in safes. One of the few great values still kicking around at affordable levels is the Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver. With a modern 38mm size, manual wound chronograph movement, and clean well proportioned dial with a rotating bezel, it’s no wonder the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver was popular in its time and still popular today among collectors.

These were built back when watches were used as tools and as such they often show quite a bit of wear. While this Chronomaster certainly has been used as intended over the years, it’s still in excellent condition and has been well preserved. The case shows its original signature chamfers, and the rotating bezel insert is free from any major signs of wear. The dial and hands are in wonderful condition which can be seen through the high dome acrylic crystal. Our example is powered by the workhorse Venus 210 movement and features the desirable broad arrow hands found on early examples of the CASD.

Take a look at the pictures and our condition run-down below:

Case: 38mm stainless steel case in good vintage condition. The case shows minor surface scratching and wear throughout with some small nicks and dings present as shown in the photos. The case looks to be unpolished and retains its original chamfers. The crown and pushers appear to be original.

Bezel: 60 minute bidirectional timer bezel in excellent condition as pictured.

Dial/Hands: Original matte black dial and handset in excellent condition as shown. The tritium in the hour plots have faded to a great even creamy patina. The original broad arrow style hands are in excellent condition. The hour hand has been relumed as it does not glow under UV light exposure.

Caseback: Original screw down caseback in excellent condition with only minor surface wear as shown.

Crystal: Domed acrylic crystal in excellent condition.

Movement: Venus 210 manual wind chronograph movement in excellent condition. Movement is extremely clean and all functions work as they should including the chronograph start, stop, and reset. The watch keeps very good time although the service history is unknown.

Bracelet/Strap: Like new vintage style brown leather strap with SS buckle.

Accessories: None, sold as watch only.
