For sale is a Kinetic watch from Seiko's Spirit line from 1996. I don't know much about this model, and I was attracted by its classic good looks. The gold raised indices and hands set against the cream dial reminds me of the cream dial Alpinist, as does the elegant case shape. The bracelet has solid links with hollow end links. I think the crystal might actually be sapphire but I wasn't able to confirm it definitively.

I just replaced the capacitor in the watch with a new TC920 upgrade module, which extends the power reserve to 4 months (original capacitor PR was 3 days). This makes the kinetic movement easier to live with if you don't plan on wearing it everyday. Everything on the watch is functioning properly. The movement runs well and keeps time. The PR check push-crown works and indicates a full charge when pressed. Specs are as follows:

  • Case width: 36mm (w/o crown)
  • Lug to lug length: 42.5mm
  • Lug spacing: 18mm
  • Thickness: 10.5mm
  • Crystal: may be sapphire?
  • Movement: 5M42 Kinetic (new capacitor)
  • WR rating: 100 meters

The watch is in very good condition. The case and bracelet have surface desk diving marks, but no scratches or dings. The crystal is perfect, as are the dial and hands. The movement is running well and keeping good time. One interesting thing is that the case back has "commemorate 1996.10.14" etched in Japanese in the middle. The bracelet will fit up to a 7" wrist. I don't have any spare links, but the links look universal enough that it shouldn't be too hard to find extra links from generic oyster bracelets.
