Historical Note on Kano & Karl Nonnenmacher
Karl Nonnenmacher founded Kano Uhrenfabrik in Pforzheim, Germany, in the interwar years. Pforzheim was heavily bombed in 1945, devastating the local watch industry. Kano was one of many firms rebuilding from the ruins in the late 1940s, often making use of pre-war and wartime components. This watch fits that transitional moment:
- The Rowi caseback suggests earlier 1940s stock.
- The military styling (fixed lugs, bold legibility, lume) reflects immediate postwar demand for robust, soldierly designs.
- The flawless NOS condition suggests unsold stock preserved for decades.
This piece is therefore not just a beautiful watch, but also a tangible slice of German watchmaking history.
- Just serviced (September 2025), invoice for ~$200 included.
- Runs strongly and reliably, ready for many more years of wear.
