For sale is this vintage Seiko "Spirit" (5E32-6A40), made in Japan in September of 1991. The "Spirit" line by Seiko had a design brief that emphasised classic & timeless design as well as excellent waterproof performance and accuracy. Translated from the Japanese - "A watch that goes back to the origins of timepieces"This watch, reference number SCDW003, closely follows the brief with an aesthetic that resembles the design of one of the Grand Seiko designs that was released a year later (ref. SBGS007 which was the successor to the original SBGS001 that was the first GS release), GS having been revived in 1988 after laying dormant for a couple of decades. The case design is simple but refined, with great proportions that go hand-in-hand withe the dial, hands and bracelet. This is a design that will never feel stale. The dial is a silver sunburst with contrasting high-polish indices that glisten in the light that make it feel like a far more expensive piece. The high-polish dauphine hands with the black centre (as well as the indices) also look remarkably similar to the Grand Seiko SBGS007 mentioned earlier. Seiko were experimenting with giving the series name the spotlight in the early '90s (also the case with other lines like GS, Dolce etc.) at the top of the dial, being non-printed and the Seiko logo taking the back seat by being on the lower half of the dial - a rare design choice you don't see in any other decade of Seiko design. The crown is another point of attention to detail, with a nice bevel and knurling. The case-back is screw-down to help with the waterproof mentioned in the brief to withstand everyday use (although, as with all vintage models, you should not assume the waterproof is still intact). This "Spirit" model was one of the higher-end models in the series being that it uses a scratch-proof sapphire crystal (usually reserved for Seiko's more expensive models) and also houses the calibre 5E32, that was used in Dolce models, that has a stated accuracy of 20 per YEAR (as a reference, Casio's famous F-91W has a stated accuracy of 30 seconds per MONTH). The watch is also anti-magnetic up to 60G. The bracelet is original to the watch and is a nice addition (again, with similarities to the Grand Seiko SBGS007) and is noticeably higher quality and more comfortable than standard Seiko bracelets being that the links are solid (compared to fold-over links). The links are a rice shape (from the side) perhaps taking inspiration from Omega bracelets. The bracelet can accommodate a wrist size of up to roughly 17cm. The watch is in good condition considering it is almost 35 years old, the crystal is spotless. The dial has some corrosion around the edge that is not as noticeable in real life as it is in the pictures that may bother some people but adds to the character of the watch in my opinion.  Dimensions are: 34mm x 39mm x 7.9mm Lug Width 17mm Bought in Japan.
