[WTS] Vintage Aug. 1982 Seiko "Chariot" Gold Tank Textured "Tatami" Dial (6431-508A) Japan-Made
For sale is this vintage Seiko "Chariot" (6431-508A), made in Japan in August of 1982. The "Chariot" dress watch series by Seiko is known for their thinness, elegant design and high quality quartz movements. This example, reference number CZK934, has a detailed "tatami" textured dial in spotless condition. The muted finish on the dial contrasts nicely not only to the case but to the high-polish pencil gold hands and stick baton indices. The seconds hand is in a powdered matte gold to differentiate from the minutes and seconds hands. The Seiko logo, single crystal quartz symbol, minute track and print at the bottom are in black. This particular watch has Japanese kanji inscribed on the case back that reveal that this watch was gifted by the then nationally owned Dendenkosha (Japan telecommunications company) to an employee in the year the watch was manufactured before the company became privatised 3 years later to the now known NTT (Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation) adding to the history and story of this watch. The case is a curved take on the Cartier Tank style with a raised bezel. The gold plating is still intact considering being over 40 years old with some beautiful purple iridescent tainting from ageing. This watch will fit perfectly beneath the cuff of a suit being only 6mm thick. The Suwa swirl logo at the bottom of the dial and the case back indicate it was a design made in the Suwa factory during its fierce rivalry with the Daini factory. The calibre 6431 is a neatly packed high-grade movement being and is far more pretty to look at compared to the cheap plastic quartz movements of today. It has a stated accuracy almost less than half a second a day (for reference Casio's famous and more recent f-91w has a stated accuracy of +/- 30 seconds a month). Brand new battery. Vintage lizard-style leather strap. Dimensions are: 28mm x 36mm x 6mm Lug Width 18mm Bought in Japan.
