One of the most popular forms is Urushi, which is celebrated for its great strength and natural beauty. Many are familiar with elegantly lacquered black and red tableware, but Urushi is so strong it was used during the Sengoku era to coat the armor worn by samurai – and can even serve as a binding agent. Made from the sap of the Japanese lacquer tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum), Urushi dries not by evaporation, but by absorbing moisture from the air. It is an extremely complicated process involving many steps, all of which must be completed by hand. But the effort is rewarded with a black so deep and pure, it seems endless. It is this otherworldly black beauty that lacquer artist Isshu Tamura brings to the face of The Seiko Presage Urushi Collection.” - seikowatches.com Let’s start with the star of the show — the Urushi lacquer dial. The process of creating an Urushi dial is intricate and time-consuming, rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It begins with metal polishing, followed by the application of an undercoat and more polishing. Then comes the intermediate layer, another round of polishing, and finally the top coat is applied. To bring it all to life, the dial undergoes final polishing using a technique called suri-urushi, and ends with a detailed buffing stage. Because each dial is lacquered entirely by hand, no two are exactly alike — every piece carries its own story, its own subtle imperfections that make it original. The deep black of the Urushi is elegantly contrasted with crisp white numerals and sharp rose gold hands, forming a layout that feels complex yet deliberately balanced. It’s a quiet showcase of artistry and precision that becomes more captivating the longer you look. The watch is powered by the 6R24 automatic movement, offering a power reserve indicator, day/date subdials, and anti-magnetic resistance — all packed into a well-balanced 40.5mm rose gold steel case. It comes on a genuine black crocodile leather strap, and at 13.2 thick, it wears with presence but still slips easily under a cuff. And the 100m water resistance is a cherry on top - though to be honest this one is made for office, dinner or regular “land” activities than to see any water actions. The watch is in great condition , showing minor hairline scratches from careful wear. The watch has been serviced so it keeps excellent time. It comes fitted on a brand new Seiko Alligator straps. It comes with original box but no papers. Price: $1375 + $35 flat shipping (via FedEx/DHL, express shipping costs me $60-80). Payment via PayPal F&F or G&S (+4.6% fee paid by the buyer).
