Up for sale is an honest, recently serviced example of a Seiko 6117-8000 Navigator Timer from August of 1968, the original Seiko GMT watch in the famous 38mm tonneau “sports diver” case. I picked this up about 4 years ago from Yahoo Japan and had it serviced by vintage Seiko expert Ashton Tracy (The Seikologist) at the beginning of this year. He serviced the movement, installed upper and lower barrel arbor jewels, replaced all seals with reproduction vitron gaskets, and swapped the original acrylic crystal with a aftermarket reproduction acrylic crystal. Aside from the crystal, the watch is all original. The unpolished case has quite a few hairline scratches, surface dings, and minor corrosion spots that appear in macro photos, but is still in overall nice condition with sharp case lines and brushing. The scratches and corrosion minor corrosion marks could be removed by polishing, but I elected to leave the watch unpolished to preserve the originality. The original silver aluminum bezel insert has small scratches throughout, but all numbers and markings are still prominent with little fading. The original lume is still in excellent condition, with none of the black mold that is common on vintage Seiko lume. The lume on the dial and hands still slightly glows for 30-60 seconds in a dark room if exposed to a UV light or strong flashlight. The original sunburst grey dial is also in fantastic condition with no scratches or water marks and minimal fading. The movement is in equally excellent condition, with no corrosion marks on the rotor or baseplates and no corrosion or pitting on the caseback. The watch is still running well on my timegrapher and on the wrist it is about +10-15 seconds per day, and the GMT hand lines up with the hour markers when the local hour hand is at the top of the hour. The original crown is functioning perfectly and the quickset date flips easily in the first crown position.
