Up for sale is the vintage inspiration for the Grand Seiko SBGA011 "Snowflake" dial - the 5645-5000. This piece is a dramatic, big hunk o' gold with some correspondingly large wrist presence. The case has a hand-done hammered finish, and the incredibly textured dial is gold as well. This features the Grand Seiko 5645A movement, 28800 bph with date and hacking function, and dates to the early 1970s. * Condition is very good, with the hammered gold finish largely intact and still quite bold over most of the case. * Movement functions are all operational (winding, hacking, and setting - there is no quick date function). However, service history/timekeeping is unknown and a service would be recommended for long-term use. * The Tonneau case is large, 31.2mm wide by 40.2mm long and 9.8mm thick with 18mm lugs. Due to the shape it wears quite large. Reference shot on my 6.5" wrist. The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
