For sale is this vintage Seiko "Silver Wave Z" (7123-8250), made in Japan in April of 1979. The Silver Wave series by Seiko was designed to be sporty and to be worn daily as well as to have water resistant capabilities.  This example, reference number PGP038, has great angular looks that were synonymous with the dawn of the '80s. It still carries Seiko's diving watch DNA whilst bringing something new to the table. Before this, most of Seiko's dive watches were far more curvy and round. The dial is a matte black with large luminous shovel markers at 12, 6 and 9 and maxi dot markers in between. Seiko prefers to use painted/printed markers for divers to avoid the marker coming loose or falling off during a dive if they were applied. The sword hands are polished stainless steel with a white majority and luminous inlays, while the seconds hand is completely powder white with a luminous inlay at the tip. The lume capabilities are not as bright as they might have been back in the '70s/'80s but still glow somewhat. The Seiko logo, single-crystal quartz symbol, SilverWave Z logo, Daini lightning bolt symbol, minute track and print a the bottom of the dial are all in white as is the outline for the day/date window. The negative day/date is nice attention to detail to match the matte black dial. The days of the week can be displayed in either Japanese Kanji or in English all in white except for Saturday in blue and Sunday in red. The Daini lightning bolt symbol on the dial and case back indicate that the watch was designed and manufactured by the Daini factory during its fierce rivalry with the Suwa factory. The rehaut is a very high-polish that creates some nice distorted reflections from the dial. The case, as stated earlier, has very flat and angular design language of the time with a bead/sand blasted matte top surface and high-polish sides. The original finishing is very much intact considering its age. The bezel is a friction-fit bi-directional rotating bezel so you don't have to worry about any misalignment. The bezel has an aluminium insert in black with white markings except for the 0-20 minute range that has a red line that is nicely worn. The edge of the bezel has black lines in between each grip which is an interesting touch. The case is a 38mm diameter and is relatively thin for a dive watch, hence falling in the skin diver description. The double wave engraving on the case back indicates this too as Seiko tended to use it on watches that have good water resistant capabilities but are not quite certified divers (which had/have the 3D Tsunami wave embossed on the case back). The crystal has a very nice chamfer that catches the light and surrounding that is a high-polish ring for visual interest. Please note that I cannot guarantee the water resistance of this watch due to its age. You should treat ALL vintage watches as "no water resistance" The calibre 7123 movement is a beautiful early quartz movement that has a stated accuracy of 15 seconds per month.The watch is in great condition considering it is 46 years old. General wear expected, the crystal has some very faint marks, the dial is almost spotless. The watch wears larger than the 38mm might suggest due to the thin bezel and relatively large dial. Comes on a new generic rubber strap and Seiko buckle. Brand new battery fitted.
