For sale is this vintage Seiko "Chariot" (7830-8030), made in Japan in September of 1978. The "Chariot" dress watch series by Seiko is known for its thinness, elegant design and high-quality quartz movements. This example, reference number CHA840, was a leap forwards for the chariot series in terms of movement and thinness. The design is classic and timeless along with its creamy white dial that has an unexplainable thickness to it. The black pencil hands contrast to the white dial while the seconds hand satisfyingly hits every marker of the minute track. The indices are high-polish gold with a black centre for attention to detail. The Seiko logo, single-crystal quartz symbol, Suwa swirl symbol, minute track and print at the bottom of the dial are all in black. The Suwa swirl symbol on the dial and case back indicates the watch was designed and manufactured by the Suwa factory during its fierce rivalry with the Daini factory. The case is simple yet elegant and the original gold finish is mostly still intact. The previous models in the "Chariot" range just a few years earlier in 1974 were advertised as the thinnest quartz watch in the world, this CHA840 beats those with a thinness of only 6.9mm. The crystal has a nice bevel that catches the light. The design does not look like it was from 1978 at all, and looks like it could have been made today which I think is a very applaudable of Seiko. The case back has an inscription in Japanese Kanji that signifies that this watch was a gift from an animal dentist company in Hokkaido, Japan in 1978, adding to the history of this watch. The calibre 7830 movement has a stated accuracy of 20 seconds per month (as a reference Casio's famous f-91w is only accurate to +/- 30 seconds per month and wasn't released for another 10 years). The 78 series of movements went on to be used in Seiko's "Lord Quartz" series and is a very pretty and neatly packed movement.  Comes on a brand new Seiko leather strap. Brand new battery fitted. The watch is in good condition for its age of almost 50 years old!
