But around the same time, a lesser-known variant was quietly introduced for the Southeast Asian market: the Seiko Sports 200. This model took the beloved design language of the Alpinist and gave it a subtle twist. The iconic red cursive “Alpinist” script was replaced with a bold “Sports 200” label, and the case was slightly enlarged from 37mm to 37.5mm for better wrist presence. Despite the bump in size, the watch retained the classic 19mm lug width and continued to feature the distinctive inner rotating compass bezel. Under the hood is the high-beat 4S15 caliber, running at 28,800 beats per hour, a premium movement for its time. Signature elements like the sector dial and “shark tooth” indices, designed to evoke mountain peaks, remain intact, grounding this variant firmly in the spirit of the original Alpinist while offering something uniquely its own. The watch is in good condition for its age, showing minor scratches here and there mostly on the caseback. The crystal is clear and free of scratches. Dial is clean. The watch comes fitted on OEM bracelet fits up to 19cm (7.5 inches). It has been recently serviced and running accurately at +/-5s a day (a must for watches of this age).
