From humble beginnings in clock sales and repairs, his vision led to the creation of one of the world’s most renowned watch brands. Today, Ginza remains the heart of Seiko, home to its flagship stores, the Seiko Museum, and the iconic Seiko clock, which has kept Tokyo on time for over a century. Design & Inspiration This modern reinterpretation of the 1959 Alpinist is based on the SPB241J1, SPB243J1, and SPB245J1, which pay tribute to Seiko’s first true sports watch while embracing a contemporary aesthetic. Unlike the faithful SJE085J1, the SPB259J1 takes inspiration from the original while introducing unique elements of its own. The blue-grey sunray-brushed dial is its defining feature, engraved with a texture inspired by Ginza’s historic cobblestone streets. The applied indices and sharp hands remain from the classic Alpinist models, but depending on the light, the dial’s intricate pattern shifts, revealing different depths and tones. Adding a historical touch, the seconds hand is finished in Komparu blue, a shade rooted in Meiji-era Ginza nightlife. Specifications The SPB259J1 maintains the 38mm case diameter, 12.9mm thickness, and a domed sapphire crystal. It features a see-through caseback, screw-down crown, and 200m water resistance, making it as functional as it is elegant. The watch is powered by Seiko’s reliable 6R35 automatic movement, delivering a 70-hour power reserve at 3Hz. It comes on a stainless steel 3-link bracelet with a three-fold clasp and push-button release. Released as a limited edition of 3,500 pieces, the SPB259J1 quickly sold out within weeks of its launch. Condition This watch is in mint condition, with the case stamp still intact. Originally purchased from a Seiko boutique in Thailand, it has been carefully preserved, showing barely any signs of wear or any scratches. The watch comes on its original bracelet, fitting up to a 20cm (8 inches) wrist. It includes the full set: box, papers, tags, card, and the special 140th-anniversary limited-edition tag exclusive to Thailand, plus a custom Seiko glass wipe. Price: $1700 (I can help with price declaration to lower duty fee) + $35 flat shipping (via FeDex/DHL Express, shipping cost me $70-$80 so I cover half). Payment via PayPal F&F or G&S (+4.6% fee paid by the buyer). Not accepting trades. Feel free to message me with any questions or if you're interested. Have a great day!
