Hello, I’ve inherited a collection of watches and am now looking to sell some of them. These pieces are from the GDR times of Glashütte behind the iron curtain and are the inspiration for many of the modern GO watches. They do come with a rich independent history at a much smaller price point. I only offer watches that are running. However, I always recommend having the watch serviced before regular use. I do not check for accuracy before I list watches here. If desired, I can arrange a service upon upfront payment. Please refer to the pictures and ask for more if needed. This is without question one of the rarest and most historically significant watches I have ever had the opportunity to offer - built in 1949 - a Glashütte wristwatch from the immediate post-war period, built around the legendary UROFA Caliber 58, also known as the “Raumnutzwerk.” Watches of this kind are vanishingly scarce, not only because of their age and limited production, but also due to their unique role in the rebirth of German watchmaking after the Second World War. The Caliber 58 is itself a landmark in horological engineering. Originally developed by the Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashütte AG (UROFA) before the war, it was a compact, space-efficient movement that set a new standard for watch calibers in Germany. After 1945, in the devastated but slowly recovering town of Glashütte, watchmakers began to revive production using pre-war designs. However, the legal rights to the Raumnutzwerk design had not been officially transferred to the newly formed, state-owned Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB), which inherited and centralized all remaining watchmaking capacity under Soviet oversight. This makes any watch using the UROFA 58 from this transitional era a genuine rarity, produced in extremely small numbers under extraordinary circumstances. These are not simply “vintage” watches; they are material witnesses to the rebirth of an entire industry under political, legal, and economic pressure. Most examples were lost, destroyed, or heavily modified over the decades. Finding one today in complete, unrestored, original condition like this one is almost unheard of. The watch itself features blued steel hands of striking beauty, a stainless steel case back, and what appears to be its original leather strap. Every detail is a testament to the quality and design philosophy of Glashütte's pre-GUB era. Its restrained, elegant dial and purposeful proportions reflect a classicism that has outlasted trends and eras. This is more than just a timepiece: it is a historical document on the wrist, a rare mechanical survivor from the short but critical period in which Glashütte reclaimed its identity as the center of German watchmaking. Watches like this are not just hard to find — they are nearly impossible to replace. Collectors and connoisseurs will appreciate not only its beauty and originality, but also its profound importance as one of the very first watches made in Glashütte after World War II. A truly special piece! [Pictures](https://imgur.com/a/uKdV5TA) [Timestamp](https://imgur.com/a/56HsVPq) **Payment+Shipping:** Price: €299 obo net to me via PayPal ff or wire.
