Hello WatchEx! Up for sale is my Seiko Superior Quartz 4883-8100 from 1977 in very good vintage condition. The watch has Seiko’s proprietary “HGP: Hard Gold Plating”, which is a gold plating that is highly resistant to scratching. The 50-yr old case has held up extremely well, and only exhibits mild signs of being worn.  When this watch was introduced in the 1977 Seiko catalog, it represented a huge leap forward in terms of timekeeping accuracy, improving on the benchmark Seiko had previously set with its 3883 movements from +/- 2s/month to +/- 10s/YEAR. This level of accuracy is comparable to even modern high accuracy quartz movements.  While the technological achievements are very cool, in my humble opinion, the aesthetic details of the dial on this watch are what make it so special. With its gorgeous creamy golden weave pattern, polished applied MINUTES indices, and tall, geometric onyx stones used to indicate the the hours, it becomes very clear that this was positioned to be an extremely premium watch when it was released. At 180,000yen in 1977 money, this watch was more expensive than most Rolex offerings of the time, roughly 10% of the average annual Japanese salary. You can really get lost admiring the details on the dial, very special stuff. CONDITION DETAILS: This rare gold example comes complete with its box, original black leather strap and signed buckle. The watch has been fully serviced and is ready to level up any wrist it sits on for years to come. The only signs of this watch’s age can be observed on the rear of the case, where some of the gold plating has worn and some small brass corrosion has occurred. This spotting is strictly cosmetic, the movement prior to service was in very good condition. The leather strap has been reconditioned to restore flexibility. There are no signs of damage or dry cracking in the leather. The case overall is in 8/10 condition due to the spotting on the back, but is otherwise unpolished and in original condition. The case lines are razor sharp.   I’d be open to entertaining trades.
