Autavia

The TAG Heuer Autavia is a family with two instruments in its name—automobile and aviation—and more than one expression on the wrist. A rotating bezel and clear, purposeful dial connect its early racing chronographs with modern chronographs, three-hand watches, and GMTs, but their silhouettes and movements tell very different stories.

Autavia first appeared on Heuer dashboard timers in 1933, then became a wrist chronograph in 1962. Early wrist models paired round cases with hand-wound movements; the automatic generation introduced in 1969 brought the Caliber 11, cushion-shaped cases, and a crown opposite the pushers. Within the Autavia Vintage branch, those differences matter as much as the familiar contrasting registers: an early manual-wind watch wears and handles quite differently from a later automatic.

The 2017 revival returned to a round, 42mm chronograph with the automatic Heuer 02 and three registers. The three-hand range introduced in 2019 shifted toward pilot-watch readability, using prominent Arabic numerals and broad hands; Autavia Isograph belongs to that chapter. The Autavia GMT adds a second-time-zone hand and a 24-hour bezel rather than chronograph pushers.
