The TAG Heuer 2000 Chronograph puts a stopwatch into the compact, purposeful sports-watch shape that helped define the brand in the 1980s and ’90s. Its grippy bezel and closely packed dial give it plenty of presence without demanding an oversized case—a good part of the pleasure of wearing one today.

The 2000 family began in 1982, before Heuer became TAG Heuer, and evolved through several generations. Chronographs came with both quartz and automatic movements, so choose by temperament rather than assuming they offer the same experience: quartz suits the grab-and-go character, while an automatic adds mechanical interest to an otherwise thoroughly practical watch.

On a prospective example, test the chronograph through a full start, stop, and reset sequence. The hands should return cleanly to zero, and the elapsed-minute counter should advance correctly; a running seconds hand alone doesn’t establish that the stopwatch works.
