Explore Suunto
Suunto’s route to the wrist began with compasses, not mechanical movements. Founded in Finland in 1936, the company built its reputation on navigation instruments before extending that practical outlook to dive computers and outdoor watches. You can still read that origin in the broad displays, prominent buttons, and information-first layouts: these are watches designed to be consulted mid-route.
The Vector, introduced in 1998, helped establish the outdoor wrist computer as a category, combining an altimeter, barometer, and compass in a conspicuously rounded case. The Core carried that formula forward, pairing those familiar tools with weather functions, including a storm alarm. Neither needs GPS to deliver its essential readings—a distinction worth understanding within Suunto’s sprawling digital family.
Today, the Vertical brings offline maps and substantial battery endurance to the mountain-watch brief, with solar charging on selected versions. The Race takes a different visual approach with an AMOLED screen, while the slimmer 9 Peak Pro keeps the same sporting focus in a less bulky package.
