The Seiko Turtle is recognizable by its broad cushion case and crown tucked down at four o’clock—a shape that gives these divers plenty of presence without long, projecting lugs. The name spans vintage models, modern revivals, and smaller offshoots, so the useful distinctions go deeper than dial color.

The vintage story begins in the 1970s with the 6306 and 6309 divers, whose rounded cases established the silhouette. The modern return arrived in 2016: references such as the black-dial SRP777, blue SRP773, gold-accented SRP775, and red-and-blue-bezel SRP779 pair a 45mm case with the automatic 4R36. Unlike the vintage 6309 movement, that caliber offers hand-winding and hacking seconds; the familiar day-date display remains.

The King Turtle keeps the broad modern proportions but adds sapphire crystal, a ceramic bezel insert, and a magnifier over the day-date window. The Mini Turtle takes a different route: a smaller case, crown at three o’clock, and date-only 4R35 movement. Those crown positions and calendar layouts are quick ways to separate two branches that share a nickname but feel distinctly different on the wrist.
