The Seiko SPB151 brings the broad, asymmetrical case of the 6105-8110 into a modern diver you can wear without treating it as an artifact. Its crown tucked behind a substantial guard at four o’clock gives it that unmistakable silhouette, familiar from the Seiko worn by Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.
Introduced in 2020, this isn’t a literal reproduction: sapphire, the automatic 6R35, and a steel bracelet make it a contemporary interpretation. The black-dial SPB151 is the closer visual link to the old watch; its green-dial sibling, the SPB153, takes the same shape in a different direction. On an individual example, pay attention to how the bezel pip, chapter ring, and dial markers line up—misalignment can spoil an otherwise satisfying Seiko. Try the bracelet clasp, too: its diver’s extension is useful, but the assembly can feel bulky beneath the wrist.
