The Seiko Slim Turtle brings the low, flowing case of Seiko’s 1968 6105-8000 diver into a modern Prospex watch, without the broader shoulders of the later “Willard.” Its charm is in that silhouette: still unmistakably a Seiko diver, but slimmer and less bulky on the wrist than the familiar modern Turtle.

The core versions make the choice straightforward. The white-dial SPB313 has crisp contrast and comes on a bracelet; the black-and-gilt SPB315 adds warmth on the same bracelet. For a more restrained look, the black-dial SPB317 pairs white markings with a silicone strap. Across these versions, the small date window between four and five keeps the main hour markers intact, though it isn’t the easiest date to read. The 6R35 movement is worth asking about specifically: its real-world rate can vary noticeably between examples and positions.

What owners love

  • The cushion case wears smaller than its 42mm diameter suggests. Its short lugs and relatively slim profile make it noticeably less bulky on the wrist than the regular Turtle.
  • The recessed crown at four o’clock stays out of the way, and the rounded case is comfortable for all-day wear. That comfort is a big part of why owners keep reaching for it.
  • The dial is easy to read at a glance, with strong lume and very little clutter. Owners who like the discreet date appreciate that it doesn’t interrupt the main hour markers.

Common Criticisms

  • The 6R35 can be frustratingly inconsistent: some owners report substantial daily gains or losses and noticeable variation depending on how the watch is worn or left resting. Not every example behaves badly, but accuracy is a recurring complaint.
  • The small date window between four and five o’clock is difficult to read for some owners. Its unobtrusive placement is a plus until you actually want to see the date.
