The Seiko Sharp Edged gives Presage a different register: crisp case facets and a geometric dial in place of the softer lines associated with the collection. Its dial carries an asanoha, or hemp-leaf, pattern whose raised texture catches the light differently as you turn your wrist.

Introduced in 2020, the original three-hand models are the natural starting point if you want that design without additional dial furniture. The white-dial SPB165 makes the pattern especially easy to read; the blue SPB167 gives it a quieter presence until the light hits. Both use the automatic 6R35, and their 39.3mm cases keep the angular styling from becoming overbearing.

Pay particular attention to the transitions between brushed surfaces and polished facets. Those sharply defined boundaries are central to the watch’s character, so softened edges from refinishing matter more here than they might on a rounded case.

What owners love

  • The asanoha-pattern dial is the part owners keep coming back to: it can look fairly restrained straight on, then reveal much more depth as the light moves across it. The applied markers give it another layer without obscuring the pattern.
  • The case earns its Sharp Edged name through crisp facets and distinct brushed and polished surfaces. Owners appreciate how those edges catch the light, giving the watch more character on the wrist than its straightforward outline suggests.

Common Criticisms

  • On the 6R35-powered versions, accuracy is a recurring frustration: some owners report substantial daily gains or losses and noticeable changes depending on resting position. A good-running example is certainly possible, but the movement does not consistently match the precision suggested by the exterior finishing.
