Prospex Diver SLA

Seiko’s Prospex Diver SLA family brings together several distinct branches of its dive-watch story, rather than variations on a single case. A straight-lugged 1965 recreation, a tall 1968-derived diver and a broad, cushion-shaped 1970 recreation can all carry an SLA reference, yet feel quite different on the wrist.

The SLA017 revisits Seiko’s first diver, the 62MAS, with restrained proportions, rectangular markers and an automatic 8L35. The later SLA037 takes that same 1965 starting point but adds the high-beat 8L55, running at 36,000 vibrations per hour. That distinction matters: similar-looking dials and cases can conceal substantially different movements within this family.

For another branch, the SLA025 recreates the 1968 diver with a one-piece case, a crown at four o’clock and the high-beat 8L55. The SLA033 instead returns to the asymmetric cushion case of Seiko’s 1970 diver, using the 8L35. Its crown sits within a substantial protective shoulder, a very different silhouette from the exposed lugs of the 1965-inspired watches.
