The Seiko Land Tortoise takes the Turtle’s rounded, wrist-hugging case language out of the water, swapping a dive-timing bezel for compass markings. It’s a different proposition: familiar Seiko heft and character, but a slimmer profile that makes its 43mm diameter less daunting than it sounds.

The black-dial version is the straightforward choice for legibility; green gives the outdoor theme a little more expression. Inside, the automatic 4R35 brings hand-winding and hacking, with a date rather than the Turtle’s day-date display. Sapphire crystal is a welcome distinction from many familiar Seiko divers. The important caveat is on the bezel: those compass markings are for orientation using the sun, not elapsed-time tracking, and the Land Tortoise’s 100m water resistance doesn’t make it a Turtle dive watch in different colors.
