The Seiko Baby Alpinist keeps the mountain-watch character of its larger sibling but drops the internal compass bezel and second crown, giving its textured dial room to breathe. At 38mm, it’s the Alpinist to try if you love the cathedral hands and distinctive numerals but want a quieter presence on the wrist.

Introduced in 2020, the core trio offers three quite different moods: green SPB155, blue SPB157, and charcoal SPB159. The green is the natural choice for that familiar Alpinist character; blue feels cooler, while charcoal lets the warm-toned hands and markers do more of the talking. All share the automatic 6R35, so the choice is chiefly visual rather than mechanical. Don’t mistake the smaller diameter for an especially slim watch, though: there’s still appreciable case depth. It’s also worth asking how a particular example runs, since real-world accuracy can vary noticeably with this caliber.
