Seiko’s 6138 family puts a serious automatic chronograph mechanism behind some of the most unmistakably 1970s dials the brand made. What ties these watches together is the twin-register layout and day-date display; what separates them is a remarkably varied mix of case shapes, dial treatments, and wrist presence.

The 6138 Panda pairs a light dial with dark counters, while the 6138 Baby Panda offers a distinct, more compact take on that contrast. The 6138 UFO has a broad, rounded case; the 6138 Kakume is recognizable by its square subdials. The 6138 Jumbo takes another route through oversized proportions, and the 6138 John Player Special brings black-and-gold coloring to the bullhead arrangement, with crown and pushers at the top.

Introduced in 1970, the family belongs to Seiko’s first wave of automatic chronographs rather than a succession of modern reissues. Early 6138A and later 6138B calibers share column-wheel control, a vertical clutch, and hand-winding capability. The two counters record elapsed minutes and hours, giving these exuberant designs a genuinely useful mechanical foundation.

$499 – $1,055 spread of reference medians

Each price is the median ask from one reference's own listings, and a reference needs at least five to get one. Listings that don't name a reference are left out, and nothing is blended into a family price.
