The Seiko 4502-7001 brings together two pleasures of vintage King Seiko: sharply drawn casework and a hand-wound movement running at 36,000 beats per hour. It’s a restrained watch on the wrist, but the brisk seconds hand gives away the ambition underneath.

The 45KS family arrived in 1968 from Seiko’s Daini factory, during the company’s push into high-frequency mechanical watchmaking. Here, the date-equipped 4502 adds everyday usefulness without abandoning the clean dial layout. It’s the version to choose if you want that convenience alongside the daily ritual of winding. Pay particular attention to the case’s transitions between polished planes: heavy refinishing can soften the geometry that makes these watches so satisfying. The King Seiko medallion on the caseback deserves attention too; wear or corrosion can leave that distinctive detail badly diminished.
