Avigation

Longines Avigation is a broad aviation-inspired family, not a single pilot’s watch with a fixed size or movement. Large Arabic numerals and emphatic timing displays provide the common language, but its branches range from conventional chronographs to an angled-dial design conceived for reading without turning the wrist.

The Avigation Type A-7 is the easiest to recognize: its dial is rotated 40 degrees clockwise, and a single pusher controls the chronograph. Modern interpretations have included both 49 mm and 41 mm cases, making generation an important distinction. The Avigation BigEye takes a different route, with three registers and an enlarged elapsed-minutes counter at three o’clock. The modern steel version arrived in 2017; a titanium version with a blue dial followed in 2021.

The Avigation Heritage GMT adds a second-time-zone display rather than stopwatch timing, while the Avigation Chronograph belongs to the more conventional chronograph branch. Those suffixes matter: a listing headed simply “Avigation” can conceal quite different dial layouts, case proportions, and controls, even when the aviation vocabulary is unmistakably shared.
