Concord’s story has a distinctly American accent for a Swiss watchmaker. Founded in 1908, it built its business around the American market, with dress watches that favored refinement over display. That instinct eventually found its most concentrated expression in the Delirium: a quartz watch whose extraordinary thinness made the engineering, rather than decoration, the conversation.

Introduced in 1979, the Delirium used its caseback as the movement’s baseplate, eliminating a layer from the usual construction. It belongs to the moment when quartz offered watchmakers a new design vocabulary, not merely a different source of power. Concord’s Mariner and Saratoga took another route, pairing sportier cases with integrated-looking bracelets and a clean, tailored presence on the wrist.

Then came the C1, launched in 2007, which traded restraint for thick rubber elements, forceful case architecture, and conspicuous mechanical ambition. It makes an instructive contrast with the slim earlier watches: two very different answers from Concord to the question of how a watch should occupy the wrist.
