Ciga Design approaches the mechanical watch as a design object with its workings left in view. Founded in China in 2016, the brand has built a recognizable vocabulary around skeletonized movements, sculptural cases, and displays that ask you to read the dial differently. These aren’t exercises in recreating an old reference; the movement often becomes the face of the watch.

The Series Z makes that approach easy to grasp: a tonneau-shaped case frames an openworked automatic movement, with bridges and wheels providing much of the visual interest. The Series X takes the exposed-mechanism idea into a more angular, architectural direction. Both collections put structure ahead of a conventional dial.

Then there’s the Blue Planet, which won the Challenge Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2021. Its relief globe replaces familiar hands, using a single marker to read the hour and minute scales. The oceans and continents aren’t merely decoration: they turn the act of telling the time into the watch’s central spectacle.
