Certina’s story starts in Switzerland in 1888, but the idea that still defines its watches arrived in 1959: Double Security, or DS. The original system cushioned the movement inside the case with an elastic ring, adding protection against knocks alongside improved water resistance. That practical streak gives the turtle seen on many Certina casebacks its meaning: toughness expressed through construction, not just a dial inscription.

The DS Action Diver carries that approach into a thoroughly modern dive watch, with clear luminous markers, a rotating timing bezel, and ISO-certified diving credentials. Automatic versions use the Powermatic 80, offering roughly 80 hours of power reserve. It’s a purposeful combination, with little to distract from reading the time underwater.

For a different mood, the DS PH200M draws on Certina’s 1960s divers, pairing broad hands with a crosshair dial. The DS Super PH500M goes bolder, particularly in orange, while the DS-1 brings the same engineering-minded identity to quieter, dressier watches.
