The Ball Trainmaster brings railroad-watch discipline into a more dressed-up setting: legible dials, restrained cases, and, on many versions, the small luminous gas tubes that distinguish Ball after dark. It is a broad family rather than a single design, stretching from straightforward calendar watches to chronographs, world-time displays, and watches with mechanical thermometers.

The Trainmaster Eternity sits toward the simpler end of that spectrum, while the Trainmaster Cleveland Express gives the calendar greater prominence with a day-and-date display. The Trainmaster Cannonball takes a different route, adding a chronograph without abandoning the railway-inspired presentation. Across generations, dial furniture, proportions, and movement specifications vary; the Trainmaster name alone does not establish a diameter or caliber.

The more unusual branches are identifiable by what they measure. The Trainmaster Worldtimer adds a world-time display, whereas the Trainmaster Fahrenheit and Trainmaster Kelvin incorporate mechanical temperature indication. These complications make the family’s range especially clear: the same preference for readable information can produce either a quiet everyday dial or something considerably more instrument-like.
