Alain Silberstein brought an architect’s eye to watchmaking, treating the dial as a composition rather than a list of functions. Founded in France in 1990, his watch brand gave that approach a wonderfully concrete vocabulary: primary colors, geometric hands, and cases that framed the whole arrangement. The Bauhaus influence is clear, but so is the humor. A red triangle can tell the hour without looking remotely solemn about it.
The Krono Bauhaus is a useful starting point for understanding his work. Its chronograph displays put circles, triangles, and bright accents into a busy but carefully ordered dial. These are mechanical watches whose character comes as much from the shape of a hand as from the mechanism beneath it.
Silberstein’s collaborations have carried that visual language into other makers’ watches. With Louis Erard, the Le Régulateur Alain Silberstein separates hours, minutes, and seconds, giving his distinctive hands room to move independently. The regulator layout becomes part of the design, not simply a different way of reading the time.
