I've only ever seen one early mid-century Oris claw lug like this one come up before, and the dial hadn't aged like this one has. It's a stunner. Closest match for a strap to the dial I've been able to find is one of Hodinkee's nubuck Bedford straps in 'Chestnut Brown', so that's what it's paired with. Definitely leans more salmon than brown right next to this dial. I replaced the steel buckle and pin with a matching gold plated set that also claimed to be from the 40s. Watch-only sale, no box or documentation. I personally serviced this cal 451. It was a new movement for me, and opened up a whole new category of movement: the pin-lever escapement. These movements aren't touted as the most precise, but they are historically important. They helped to democratize wristwatches by bringing down escapement cost per movement through the ability of watchmakers to more easily mass produce the all-metal pallet. This particular pin-lever movement received a new mainspring and balance as the hairspring was in bad shape upon my procurement. I also replaced the crystal. According to my timegrapher the watch is running very well (pictured). I wore it a few days after service to confirm good timekeeping and operation and had no trouble with it. It was serviced in July and has been fully wound/run at least once every two weeks since then. There is visible wear through the plating throughout the case, but it looks like someone at some point added a layer of plating, so the color is consistent across the case but you can see the wear pictured on the lugs. It's an old watch and the wear is apparent, but it wears well. Specs: 35mm case, 20mm lug width, 43mm lug to lug. Domed acrylic crystal, gold plated base metal case with stainless steel snap-on case back. Dial has aged to a very pleasant and attractive salmon color. Gilt roman numerals at 12, 3, 6, & 9. Stick minute and second tracks (respectively) with square guilt 5-minute markers. No lume on dial or baton hands. Sub seconds at 6, time only.
